Instagram is launching the first NFT service and experience on the platform to more than 100 countries, after an initial trial period with some US-based users. One-of-a kind NFT of Mark Zuckerberg’s Little League baseball career will be one of the first official sales.
Instagram’s NFT Launch
Instagram today announced via its blog that it is growing its NFT service. Instagram began testing digital collectibles earlier this year. They are now expanding this ability for creators, collectors, and businesses to share, own and create NFTs.
As part of the launch of Instagram NFT, they will allow third-party wallet connections to Coinbase Wallet and Dapper Wallet. Flow, Polygon, Ethereum are the current supported blockchains. The Meta-owned platform will not charge fees for sharing or posting digital collectibles.
NFTs on Instagram will look similar to posts and include a tag at bottom left called ‘Digital collectible’. While this is an important feature, it’s not the only thing they do. It is possible that they could help open up new purchasing opportunities. Mark Zuckerberg recently shared his NFT Launch commitments to Instagram.
Instagram’s Commitments for their NFT Launch
As a company, Instagram often focuses on equality, safety and sustainability. In relation to their NFT movements, this will continue. They stated that they are focused on the empowerment of diverse voices. We want Instagram to be safe and fun for all. We are committed to building in this space with sustainability in mind.”
Through the Words of a Creator
Natalie Amrossi is a photographer who posts her work on the Instagram platform, she spoke on the Instagram NFT launch, and what it can mean to her and other creators.
“NFTs opened up new opportunities for me, and other artists around the world. This technology gives us another way to earn a living, and allows us to connect with collectors and fans. Instagram has helped build careers for so many creatives, including myself, and now our communities can support us further by sharing our work on the platform.”
What’s Next for Instagram and Meta?
Meta, and its founder, Mark Zuckerberg, have been very bullish on the crypto and NFT space. It is remarkable that the name change from Facebook and Meta stands out. They hope to expand their metaverse ventures and become a major player in the space.
With the launch of Instagram NFT, they aim to educate a wider audience about the ever-expanding area. This education includes work being done through the @creators page, with their ‘NFTeach Me’ series.
