Legendary film director Spike Lee will be launching a collection of NFTs linked to his 1986 film “She’s Gotta Have It.” Lee will be releasing this collection in collaboration with The Visible Project and Habitat Labs.

In total, there will be 3,945 NFTs, which will feature frame-by-frame stills of Mars Blackmon – played by Lee himself. Additional artworks from Tre Seals, Adrian Franks, and Adrian Franks will be included in the collection. The NFTs will have unique generative characteristics that were inspired by the film.
The NFTs also mark Spike Lee’s tenure as the chairman of The Visible Project. This project will be a new, democratic content incubator for the NFT-powered age. It will also help filmmakers to enter Web3 via the NFT space.
Habitat Labs’ Eliot Greene commented on the collaboration.
” We are proud to be a partner with Spike Lee as he works to create a legacy that empowers the next generation of artists. This innovative collection and initiative will have a huge impact on NFTs in ‘traditional’ entertainment. We are forging a new kind of marketplace; where collectors will own a piece of classic cinema history and have the opportunity to fund and greenlight real projects.”
Lee owns and controls the rights to “She’s Gotta Have It.” Therefore, he will not have any copyright or licensing problems with the release of these NFTs. Quentin Tarantino was also in trouble after he announced NFTs. Miramax filed a lawsuit against Tarantino for copyright infringement after the filmmaker announced Pulp Fiction NFTs.
